Sheboygan Thunderstorms
Sheboygan was hit by the week of thunderstorms that hit the midwest last week. While the city encountered had some flood damage, it is not near the damage seen in Iowa. I was able to capture some good lightning strikes on my little point-and-shoot camera that I was happy with. Enjoy!

Happy Father's Day
While I was walking into church this morning, someone I don't know wished me a happy father's day. I think that was a first for me. Although Allison and I aren't quite at that stage yet, I wouldn't be where I am if it weren't for my father. Thanks for all you do, Dad. Although we don't quite where our hearts on our sleeve, I truly appreciate all you do and all you have done for me - even when I wasn't so appreciative in the past.
Happy Father's Day.
Happy Father's Day.

Dude, I got published. Say wha???
I can't believe it, but I actually got one of my pictures published!

The picture above was selected to appear in the May/June 2008 edition of Michigan History magazine. I just received a copy of the magazine yesterday, and scanned a copy of the page.

I really don't consider myself much of a photographer. I just snap pictures with my point-and-shoot when I have the opportunity because I enjoy it, so it's pretty exciting to see it actually printed for others to see!
I took the picture last summer when Allison and I went on a Photo Walk of Detroit with the Garvin's, the Weir's, and Rob Griffith. It was a lot of fun. We got a pancake breakfast at IHOP, and then drove and walked around Detroit a bit. The rest of the pictures that I took that day can be found here.

First Place - Bike & Walk to Work Week
Check it out - Allison and I made it into the Kohler Capsule.
--------------------
They prevented 1,478 pounds of harmful carbon emissions from entering the atmosphere. There burned even more calories. And while doing so, the New Product Development associates took the "Bike & Walk to Work Week" challenge to the next level.
Anne Kitzmiller organized a friendly competition to help associates see both the environmental and physical benefits of biking and walking to work. Five teams of seven associates each tracked their miles for the week. The team with the most combined miles would win.
The competition spurred unfazed dedication, like that of associate Kevin Gannon. He biked 20 miles from Belgium and even faced a rain shower to help the team bank those extra miles.
In the end, "One Mile at a Time" - a thoughtful team name - finished first with more than 350 miles. The team consisted of Steve Aykens, Ben Marotz, Joe Blake, Allison Blake, Jeremy Hinz, Mike King, and Jarrett Wiesolek.
"The total results were pretty insane," said Kitzmiller. Participants biked and walked a total of 1,586 miles, which is like traveling from Wisconsin to just 30 miles shy of the Pacific Ocean.
And that was only for one week. Many of the participants have decided to continue biking to work throughout the summer, improving their health, keeping carbon dioxide-emitting vehicles off the road and saving money on gas.
--------------------
Well, Allison and I haven't biked to work since the competition ended 3 weeks ago. But we plan on doing it some more this summer. During the competition, we were able to leave our car parked from Sunday to Sunday with little impact to our lives.
